ソニー・スティット

ソニー・スティット（Sonny Stitt）ことエドワード・スティット（Edward Stitt, 1924年2月2日 ボストン - 1982年7月22日 ワシントンD.C.)）は、ビバップ期およびハードバップ期に活躍したアメリカ合衆国のジャズ・サクソフォン奏者。チャーリー・パーカーの最も優れた弟子と看做されており、ブルースや、《スカイラーク（Skylark）》のようなバラードによってとりわけ深い感銘を与えた。同世代の他のサクソフォン奏者に比べると、資料に特に恵まれた一人であり、生前に100点以上の録音を残した。スティットの演奏は、最初はチャーリー・パーカーやレスター・ヤングに大きく触発されていたが、ゆくゆくは自身の演奏様式を繰り広げ、今度は自分がジョン・コルトレーンを感化することとなった。アメリカ在住のドイツ人ジャズ評論家、ダン・モルゲンシュテルン（ダン・モーゲンスターン）は、スティットのあくなき演奏旅行とジャズへの献身を評して、「一匹狼」とのあだ名を献上している（Wikipedia）。
